CFB · Team Ratings

Every FBS team, ranked and rated

The board ranks teams by résumé: record, losses, strength of schedule and best wins, weighed the way poll voters have weighed them since 2014. Beside it sits our points rating, our own read on who is better (the WeatherQB Line itself starts from the market when a game has a line, and from these ratings when it does not). A rating is what a team is worth against an average FBS team on a neutral field — so the gap between two ratings, plus three points at home, is our ratings line. Measured from results back to 2013 and refreshed every morning.

How it has done

71.2% of winners picked over 3,174 games in 2022–25, against 72.6% for the closing Vegas line. We land on the same side as the market 89.4% of the time.

The percentages hold up: games called 80–89% were won 86% of the time, and games called 90%+ were won 94%.

Weakest in September, when a rating still carries most of last season. It is not a market-grade number and does not try to be.

The résumé ranking, tested on seasons it never saw (2014–25), named 21.8 of the AP poll's top 25 by mid-season and 22.5 late in the year, against 19.3 for the points rating alone.
