How the score is built
Each hour from 9 AM to 6 PM local starts at 10 and loses points for what makes being outside worse; the day’s score is the average hour, rounded. The comfort range is fixed, the same in every city and season: the score says whether it is nice out, not whether it is nice for October. “Why” names anything that costs a city 0.75 or more on average.
Bands: 10 Perfect · 8–9 Great · 6–7 Good · 4–5 Meh · 0–3 Stay in.
The shading and each city: the WeatherQB forecast blend, about 13,000 points across the lower 48 and the 100 cities of Degree by Degree. Each point’s own local 9 AM to 6 PM. Where the forecast has only a longer-window rain chance, that chance counts at 60%.
